Construction milestone met at Chinese nuclear power project

Construction of two Areva EPR reactors at the Taishan nuclear power station in China reached a new stage of development Sept. 12, EDF and Areva said. The owner and future site operator, Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. (TNPJVC), which is 30 percent owned by EDF and 70 percent owned by its Chinese partner, the electricity company CGNPC, has proceeded to fit the dome of the second reactor building, less than one year after fitting the dome on Unit 1.
Areva said this marks the end of the major civil engineering works on the reactor buildings.

With its dome fitted, the reactor building will subsequently house the heavy components of the nuclear reactor, such as steam generators, the reactor pressure vessel and the pressurizer vessel.

After the installation of the reactor vessel in June, the steam generators will be positioned in Unit 1 in the next few weeks.
